Pen Portraits of Our Governors

Father Steven

I am Father Steven the Vicar of Christ Church and Chair of Governors for Christ Church School. I was born and brought up in Sheffield with my two brothers and two sisters.  I left home at 17 and have lived in a whole variety of places and done a variety of jobs.

I've been ordained for 27 years and have spent 11 of them here in Streatham.

I have a Degree in Theology and a Masters in Medical Ethics. I'm involved with the school in a variety of ways and am constantly amazed at the achievements made by the whole school community. I believe God has given all of us gifts to use for His praise, our enjoyment and other people's benefit. I like working in my garden listening to folk music and sharing meals with friends.

Charlotte Purcell

In September, Charlotte will be the Deputy Headteacher. She was previously Assistant Headteacher and Charlotte’s pen portrait will be uploaded shortly.

Sonia Freeman

I have worked within the further education sector for thirty-two years.  During my time in further education I have had many roles including lecturer, mentor, manager and my last role, before early-retirement last year, was as a Curriculum Director.

Currently I am working as a Milliner and part time Literacy Intervention Tutor for a national charity.

I am an active member of my local church, St Peter's Church, Streatham, which I have worshiped at for over thirty years.   Currently I am a member of the serving team, flower group and on the PCC.

Marilyn Armstrong

I am Marilyn Armstrong.  I have been a member of Christ Church for many years and my four sons have all attended the school. During that time I was treasurer of the PA.  The boys were also members of the uniformed organisation.

Last July (2014), I retired after twenty five enjoyable and fulfilling years working and being part of the children's learning at Christ Church Primary School. During that time, after studying at college and with the support of the school I became the ICT teacher and subject leader.

I have been a member of the governing body for a number of years and have been appointed by Christ Church PCC.  I now serve on the Resources Committee and bring knowledge and experience from previous employment in banking and further education.

Suzanne Pentecost

My name is Suzanne Pentecost.  I was born in North London, but raised in Somerset during my early years.  I have been involved with Christ Church School for many years and I am Vice Chair to the Governing Body.  My three children were all educated at Christ Church School and during those years I was Chair of the PA.

I am actively involved in Christ Church as a Brownie/Guide Leader and Sunday School Superintendent.  I also have an insight and knowledge of the local community and I am keen to see the best educational opportunities being available to all children.  Within my Christian beliefs I find all these roles so fulfilling.

Andrew Christie

My name is Andrew Christie and I was appointed SDBE governor in November 2017. I left Aberdeen to study Classics at Oxford University. After training to be a teacher at Cambridge, I taught at Norwich School and Rugby School before moving to Streatham & Clapham High School as a member of the Senior Leadership Team.

I first became involved in Christ Church teaching Latin to the Year 5 class every Friday morning and was impressed by the energy and enthusiasm of the pupils. I am keen to support the school’s vision of keeping Christian values and high expectations at the heart of every aspect of the school’s life.

My wife is the Priest-in-charge of All Saint’s Church, Tooting, and in my spare time, I enjoy going to the theatre and learning Finnish.

Michelle Hawkridge

I am Michelle Hawkridge, I'm currently the PCC Foundation Governor.  I am also a Sunday School Teacher for Christ Church.  My family and I have been members of Christ Church for many years.  My son also serves at Christ Church regularly.

As a parent, I initially volunteered at the school, and an opportunity arose for me to train as a Teaching Assistant.  I have completed my NVQ Levels 2 & 3 in Supporting in Teaching and Learning.

I have since become an Early Years Educator (EYE) at Christ Church School.  I have been part of the team since 2010.

Michelle Tripyear

I am Michelle Tripyear.  I have been teaching at Christ Church School since 2006.  I have been the Staff Governor since August 2012.  I am passionate about Christ Church School and have had the pleasure of working with children across the school with a particular focus in KS1 and Early Years.  I am currently the EYFS Lead across the federation.  I am a member of the congregation at Christ Church where I help with Sunday School.

I have developed many skills as a teacher, mentor and a member of the school and I am part of the Senior Leadership Tem.  I have enjoyed working closely with the parents of our school this year, running coffee mornings and fundraising events to benefit the children of the school.

Freddie Fforde

I'm Freddie Fforde, a long term resident of South London and Lambeth's Local Authority appointee to the Governors. I am passionate about education and my day job is helping to grow new start up businesses in the UK. My goal as Governor is to identify which areas I can be most helpful in, using my background in business where helpful. In particular, I would like to spend time with staff and parents on a regular basis to ensure we are meeting the collective needs of the school.

I was drawn to Christ Church due to the excellent reputation of its management, it's proximity to my home (such that I can make regular visits), and because I am interested to learn more about the role of faith schools in public education. I choose not to practice any faith myself. I graduated with a degree in History from the University of St Andrews, of which I was a member of the governing body for a year.

Chichi Okorie

Chichi is new to our Governing Body and her pen portrait will be available shortly.

Theodora Brady

Theo is new to our Governing Body and her pen portrait will be available shortly.
